Adidas Originals by Originals James Bond & David Beckham Tennis Vintage Hi

The first batch of Adidas Originals by James Bond & David Beckham was not terribly impressive, I took a trip to the SOHO location with the intention of buying a pair , but I was simply not moved. I ended up with what must be my 50th pair of Rod Lavers and called it a day.

Among the high-profile collaborations from adidas Originals this past season included the David Beckham Originals by Originals capsule designed by UNDFTD’s James Bond. A recent release features the SS 80 Tennis Vintage Hi with a minimalistic and simple black and white colorway.

But I am happy to say that this latest style seems to be a step in the right direction for the Beckham brand within the Adidas Originals universe.

CONVERSE One Star Colosole OX Made In Japan…

Posted in Fashion, Sneakers with tags , , , , , on April 1, 2010 by mattyfresh697400

What can I say, I am a sucker for clean lines and simplicity in my sneakers, sure every now and again I will go buckwild on my colorways. But for the most part a crispy clean white low top is great for me.

I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across this new limited edition Converse One Star Colosole OX. Its a great looking shoe. Simple and Plain.

I have not copped a pair on Converse in some time but I am feeling this one, another low perfect for the spring time.

The Converse One Star was a competitive basketball sneaker that featured smooth leather during late 60’s to mid 70’s yet its premium quality leather became rather hard to find and had to stop production for a short time. In the mid 80’s it came back as Made in Japan model that featured glass coating on its upper to give it extra shine.

This One Star Colosole OX Made in Japan is a remake of that classic with white uppers atop navy side tape and outsoles. Inner lining is highlighted by the use of matte red leather. White shoe laces and white One Star on the side along with white side tape emphasize its classic beauty. These are only available at limited select store and mita sneakers is one of the stores providing pre-orders which will deliver around mid May.

Adidas Originals – Nizza Low

Posted in Adidas, NYC, Sneakers with tags , , , on March 30, 2010 by mattyfresh697400

I hit Adidas in Soho this weekend , expecting to cop a pair of the David Beckham’s. I had only seen them online , but the clean lines and interesting sole (and the Beckham brand)  seemed to make it a no brainer. But after seeing them in person I was not all that impressed,  and the $150.00 price point seemed high for such a basic look. I have always loved the Lavers and the Stan Smiths and for the same price I could buy three pairs of either line.

Then I stumbled upon the NIZZA LOW. I had seen these on the web but they sort slipped my mind, but as soon as I saw the sky blue three stripes it was on. I think they will look perfect for the spring time, of course the fact that I feel like I live in Seattle with all this crazy rain makes me feel like spring is far away….but a good purchase to add to the collection.

Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals on HBO

The Ad that created a lifelong friendship

Growing up Larry Bird was always the man, it occurs to me now when thinking back to 1983, 84 that my grandfather although from Pennsylvania ,  was a bigtime Celtic Fan (and a huge Yankee Fan..Perhaps my grandfather was on to something..he liked WINNERS)… Of course that seems contradictory in nature being that all true die-hard Yankee fans hate all things Boston. But Larry Bird was always the exception and I have a serious soft spot for him.

Whether he was diving for loose balls, or winning the 3 point shootout with his warm up jacket on, Larry Bird was nasty and as a white 10-year-old kid, I could identify with him. I wanted my J to look as smooth as Larry Legend (still working on that) I was always a Bird fan!. So when I heard about this new documentary on HBO about the Bird/ Magic Rivalry I had to see it.

The good peeps at HBO nailed it, the story of the un-likely friendship and bond between two of the greatest and most competitive athletes of all time is nothing short of gripping. This 90 minute doc not only gets to the heart of their story as their lives intertwined and their careers would inevitably be defined in tandem, it gets to the heart of these men as people. It’s great television and a must see for any sports fan.

I would go so far as to say that the Bird & Magic rivalry, might be the most intense and deep one on one professional athletic rivalry ever and HBO has gone along way in furthering that notion.

The footage is all classic, from their respective high schools in Michigan and Indiana, to their classic NCAA final battle in 79, to their NBA wars its pretty incredible. But the interviews with the two of them are so well done and so enlightening.

The Story of how they really first became friends (already bitter rivals on the court) when converse brought them together to shoot a commercial for the Magic & Bird Weapon line (Choose Your Weapon) The commercial was shot at Birds moms home in French Lick, Indiana and when the two actually got to talk and hang out a friendship blossomed, but the competitive fire in each was still burning bright.

The relationship between this two was certainly worthy of a HBO documentary and I can’t say enough about how it was executed. The scenes when they touch upon Magic contracting HIV and Larry Bird’s reaction  to his friends illness are moving, this is not simply a sports documentary.

Larry Bird and Magic are legends that put the NBA on a trajectory that Air Jordan would eventually take to new heights, but I agree with what Bryant Gumbel says in the documentary………..”It was Bird and Magic that saved the league”

Magic & Bird : A Courtship Of Rivals all this month on HBO….Catch it!

The Manny Pacquiao!

It makes sense that the the worlds greatest pound for pound boxer has a dedicated pair of Nike Trainers that are just dope!

The good folks at Nike nail it again with great colorways and I am sure what is a very functional training shoe.

Pac Man

With the previous three Manny Pacquiao Nike Training releases reaching a frenzy far beyond most anyone’s expectations, Nike has just released yet another “Pac Man” sneaker in the Trainer SC 2010 Low.

In the traditional flag colors of Manny’s homeland, the Philippines, the Trainer SC 2010 features a synthetic leather and mesh upper with Flywire strands providing extra support and reinforcement. Cushioning comes by way of a heel Max Air unit, which nicely complements the outsole DiamondFLX groove pattern. Retail price is $110.
