INCEPTION

The Boss and Joe Torre

ahh Summer Time , its been a very busy summer so far and its been a minute since I have posted,  so rather than post about a single subject I am simply gonna write and see what comes out….From Capri to Inception to the loss of Steinbrenner , it really has been a crazy summer to date…In just a few short weeks , Lebron went from sports icon to total DOUCHER , I became completely obsessed with Twitter, Hip Hop came back hard with great albums from The Roots, Drake, Big Boi, Eminem and Ricky Ross , The Yankee Organization was hit hard 3 times with the losses of THE BOSS, Legendary PA announcer Bob Shepard, and former player and manager Ralph Houk , Dave Matthews crushed Citifield , Nick Swisher was on the All Star team and in the Home Run Derby , great books by James Patterson and David Bladacci were read , Brock Lesnar battled Shane Carwin and pulled off a great victory keeping his UFC heavyweight belt , .The Yankees are sitting in first place atop the AL EAST……… AND…………..I bought six pairs of dope ass kicks (shout out to the crew at WEST on 72nd Street (WESTSIIIIIIDE!!!)

Baseball Hall of Fame

This weekend I take my annual trip to Cooperstown with my dad. It is a weekend consumed with the sport of baseball and the very deep history of the game, needless to say it is a great time and also very much symbolizes the mid-point of the summer and will certainly get a full post of its own.

So that’s my very brief summer to date recap…MUCH MUCH MORE TO FOLLOW

Hootie and The Blowfish..Thank You Pandora.

Posted in Music, YouTube Classics with tags , , , , , , on April 30, 2010 by mattyfresh697400

I feel compelled to write a post to state clearly that my blog is not simply about Hip-Hop music, or music in general for that matter. That being said I am just loving music right now and can not get enough so in fact this particular post IS about music.  So I am seemingly contradicting myself as I touch each letter on my keyboard.

But I digress again…

Spring is certainly in the air and there is something about this time of year, as the mercury rises and the warm breeze blows through the streets of NY, all music just sounds better. I don’t care what you are listening to!

So right now rather than listening to some Drake, Or Jay Z or Ice Cube or my man Jay Electronica  guess what I am bumping??  A little band called Hootie and the Blowfish. …

Thats right Hootie and The Blowfish. Perhaps the worst name ever for a band , but let’s be clear their first album “Cracked Rear View Mirror” was a monster and it still sounds great. The Album sold 16 MILLION copies.  Put Jigga, Kanye and Weezy together and they still could not touch that number. Lead singer Darius Rucker has the voice of  the angels and although now he is fully entrenched in country music, his time with Hootie was special.

16 Million Sold

I can grasp that you might not want to admit that you liked Hootie, but you know you did.  Hard not to like 3 white boys in cut off dockers and collegiate hats and a Black leader singer that is more Dave Matthews than Corey Glover (shout out to the band  Living Colour )

The debut album that garnered the band a BEST NEW ARTIST Grammy in 1996 had 4 top 20 hits, cmon you know the titles…

“Hold My Hand”

“Let Her Cry”

“Time”

“Only Wanna Be with You”

So why Hootie and why  today, I really cant say,  Probably because I was listening to Pandora at my desk and there they were.

But I think that’s what  Pandora and YouTube and Itunes are for. To remind us that music is not always about whats new and hot  and whats coming next, but that in fact we already have tens of thousands of classic songs at our fingertips twenty-four hours a day seven days a week…. go get em!

New DRAKE single “Find Your Love” produced by Kanye

Posted in Hip-Hop, Music, Rappers with tags , , , on April 29, 2010 by mattyfresh697400

Second Single

Drake certainly made this one for the ladies and to say its radio friendy is a but of an understatement. But something tells me they this one might go global, I see them digging this is in Cannes this summer. And its got Kanye’s fingerprints of 808’s and Heartbreak all over this bad boy.

“Find Your Love” is the second single from the forthcoming sure to be massive debut album “Thank Me Later”

But this record is so radio friendly and really much more of an R&B record that its an interesting route to take, but not surprising. Drake and his team know exactly what they are doing and this will be no exception.

At first listen I am not blown away, but it feels like a creeper. Meaning this record is sure to grow on all.

I think it wins!

I make no secret at all that my man Drake is a beast , a real triple threat. He can rap, He can sing and he can…well I dont know maybe he is simply a double threat…I will say this, Its been a minute since there has been a debut album (No his itunes ep does not count) with this much anticipation. Reminds me a bit of waiting for Snoop to drop in 94 (but that might be taking it a bit far) The good folks at HypeTrack got the first single for our listening pleasure….Looking forward to hearing more Drizzzzzzy!

After months of sharing verses with today’s top-selling recording artists and constantly postponing his long-awaited debut album “Thank Me Later” Drake is finally ready to present his first single. Entitled “Over” Drake is in full Drizzy-mode giving a recap of his eventful past year over the Boi-1da laced track. This is certainly not the radio-joint people have expected, but it is a solid effort that leaves one wanting to finally hear his full opus that is slated to appear in May.

Drake….still on FIRE!!

I really dont care what people say, Drake is sick. Truly an Amazing Talent. Drake along with J. Cole and Jay Electronica will help keep hip-hop burning for the next 10 + years.

Check out the new COMPLEX with my man DRAKE on the cover.

DRAKE HYPE or DRIVE

For their Feb/March issue, Damien Scott sat down with Drake to discuss what has come up since the last time they’ve spoken to each other. Obviously there was the backlash from the Best I Ever Had video and how it slowed down his momentum, his knee injury. addresses how Kid Cudi may have felt slighted because Kanye was directing his video while Cudi was coming out. He also addresses the competition between all the young/new rappers, as well as his old friend Nickelus F.

Around the time that Kanye directed “Best I Ever Had,” it seemed like there was strife between your camp and Cudi’s camp because Kanye was so enamored of you while Cudi’s project was being worked on.

Drake: I wasn’t aware of that. Even so, I could understand. If Wayne were to be enamored—which is a great word—of another young artist, I would be like, “Damn, I’m here too!” But at the same time, it happens in more than one situation. It happens with ‘Ye, and I have a great relationship with Jay, and Jay’s got Wale and J. Cole, who’s one of my favorite dudes rapping right now. I’ve happened to have had more success. I made the most money, I have number-one records, those guys don’t have that shit. And it’s just facts, it’s not even my feelings or that I feel I’m more talented. That’s what the game is about, making great music that earns profit. When it comes to my relationship with the new dudes, I’m just excited for them. I get to sit back in a cool position and be like, “Yo, I’m excited to see you do it now because I know what it’s like, it’s gonna be so much fun for you…”

You feel like you’re at the finish line?

Drake: I’m at the starting line. Those guys are at home, putting on their tracksuits, getting ready to make their attack. When J. Cole gets it super-right, I think he’s gonna have a place as a Nas-type character who really stands for hip-hop, but still makes ill records that everybody fucks with.

If J. Cole is Nas, then who are you?

Drake: [Laughs.] I’m the young big homie!
